Steps

  1. 1Attach the pressure regulator and filter to the hose bib.
  2. 2Run the 1/2 inch mainline around the perimeter of your beds.
  3. 3Punch holes in the mainline at each bed using a hole punch.
  4. 4Connect 1/4 inch emitter tubing with barbed fittings and run it down each row.
  5. 5Space emitter lines 10–12 inches apart for even coverage.
  6. 6Cap the ends of each emitter line.
  7. 7Secure tubing with stakes and test the system.
  8. 8Set the timer for early morning watering.

Tools needed

  • Β·Tubing cutter or sharp scissors
  • Β·Tape measure
  • Β·Hammer for stakes

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Β·Emitters spaced too far apart β€” roots never get full coverage
  • Β·No pressure regulator β€” high pressure blows emitters off
  • Β·No filter β€” particles clog emitters in one season
  • Β·Forgetting to flush and drain the system before freezing weather

Maintenance tips

Flush lines monthly. Clean the filter weekly during heavy use. Store the timer and filter indoors in winter.
