Placement

Set posts in concrete 2–3 feet deep. Leave 7–8 feet of headroom under the beams.

Steps

  1. 1Mark a rectangle and dig four 2–3 foot deep holes.
  2. 2Set posts plumb and pour concrete.
  3. 3Let concrete cure 24–48 hours.
  4. 4Bolt the two main beams across the tops of the posts.
  5. 5Space rafters every 12–18 inches across the beams.
  6. 6Seal all wood surfaces.
  7. 7Plant vines at the base of each post and train them upward.
