Placement

Place near an outlet in a cool basement or spare room. Hang lights 2–3 inches above seedlings and raise them as plants grow.

Steps

  1. 1Assemble the shelving unit in its final location.
  2. 2Hang one or two LED shop lights above each shelf using chains or S-hooks.
  3. 3Plug the lights into a programmable timer set to 14–16 hours on.
  4. 4Place seedling trays on the shelves and adjust lights to 2–3 inches above the tops of the plants.
  5. 5Raise the lights every few days as seedlings grow.
  6. 6Add a small fan on the lowest setting to strengthen stems and prevent fungus.
  7. 7Water from below by setting trays in shallow water for 10 minutes.
