How to plant
Sow fresh seed 1/4 in deep outdoors in fall, or cold-stratify in the fridge 8–12 weeks before spring sowing. Plant in humus-rich, moist shade or woodland edge.
Grower's tip
Native North American woodland perennial with fluffy white flower clusters followed by bright red berries. All parts, especially berries, are poisonous.

Well-drained garden soil. Native/wildflower species prefer lean soil; cutting flowers prefer richer beds.

Post-harvest storage & preservation
Immediately re-cut stems underwater and place in clean cool water for 4 hrs before arranging. Petals can be dried on screens for potpourri or crafts.
