Start indoors or direct-sow after frost. Spreads by underground rhizomes — give it room or grow in a container. The papery orange husks are the show.

Grown for the bright orange lantern-like calyxes; fruit is edible only when fully ripe. Can be invasive in ideal conditions.

Post-harvest storage & preservation
Immediately re-cut stems underwater and place in clean cool water for 4 hrs before arranging. Petals can be dried on screens for potpourri or crafts.
