How to plant
Sow in late summer or early fall, often mixed with cereal rye which serves as a trellis. Vines lay a dense weed-smothering mat over winter and put on huge biomass in spring. Mow and till 2–3 weeks before planting warm-season crops.

Delivers a massive nitrogen credit — up to 100 lb N per acre. Time termination carefully: past bloom, vetch reseeds aggressively.
Soil preferences
Well-drained loam. Beans and peas fix their own nitrogen — don't over-fertilize.
